The Ample Basalt is a Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) modular construction that exemplifies precision and craft. Agents of Architecture delivered the full scope from town planning through to fabrication drawings, including 13 bespoke laser-cut files for the custom steelwork. This project represents a complete modular build solution.
We collaborated closely with Aaron Shields at AmpleCo, and Aims and Kristie from Unearthed Interiors, to achieve a rich palette of texture and beauty. The fine styling works in tandem with the architecture, creating a theatrical backdrop where the building supports the life within. Every building must work almost theatrically.
Project Insights: A key focus was refining review steps and allowing sufficient budget for concept and rendering. In small buildings, getting every single millimeter right is fundamental, and enough time must be allowed to make the footprint work hard. Note: This building currently operates as a Class 1B structure. We will be updating the Weekender Plan to suit Class 1A requirements in line with new liveable housing standards.
